Job summary

American Electric Power in Texas is seeking a P&C Technician to support the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of protection and control devices and related equipment across station facilities.

The role involves performing switching under supervision, calibrating devices on a schedule, and assisting with trouble diagnosis and repairs while complying with safety and regulatory requirements. Heavy physical demands and travel may be required; a driver’s license is necessary.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in electrical engineering technology, electronics or related field.
• No prior work experience required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• Physical demand level is Heavy.
• Travel and overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in acceptance and installation tests on protection, control, and measurement devices and associated equipment in stations.
• Assist in the installation, maintenance, and operation of power line carriers, station SCADA, and associated communications equipment.
• Perform switching under direct supervision of qualified personnel following direction of the proper operating authority.
• Assist in installation, maintenance, and operation of new and added equipment or systems.
• Maintain test equipment and automotive equipment in good working order for safe and efficient operation.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports and drawings as required.
• Assist employees of equal or higher classification.
• Perform duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations (NERC and environmental).
• Test, calibrate, and diagnose protection and control devices and equipment.
