Job summary

American Electric Power on-site position in Texas seeks an electro‑mechanical technician to assist in testing and installation of protection and control devices, SCADA equipment, and communications systems. You’ll perform switching under supervision, help install new equipment, and maintain test gear to ensure safe, efficient operations.

The role requires an associate degree in related technology and may consider equivalent military training.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in electrical engineering technology, electronic technology or related technology field.
• Equivalent education and/or experience as determined by the hiring manager and limited to military training and technical/technician experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in acceptance and installation tests on protection, control, and measurement devices and associated equipment in stations.
• Assist in installation, maintenance, and operation of power line carriers, station SCADA, and associated communications equipment.
• Perform switching under direct supervision of qualified personnel.
• Assist in installation and operation of new equipment or systems as assigned.
• Maintain test equipment and automotive equipment for safe, efficient work across the system.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports and drawings.
• Perform duties in accordance with safety rules, NERC and environmental compliance.
• Test, calibrate, and diagnose protection & control devices; assist with corrective action.
