Job summary

Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) is seeking a Civil Engineering Principal in our Charlotte, NC office to lead site development and design efforts for a diverse project mix. You’ll manage teams from concept through construction, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction.

As an employee-owner, you’ll mentor staff, contribute to business development, and help shape long-term growth while collaborating with clients and regulatory agencies in a dynamic Southeast market.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
• 15+ years in civil engineering focusing on site development or infrastructure design.
• Experience overseeing projects with annual fees over $500,000.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for site design and utilities.
• Experience developing scopes of work, proposals, and managing budgets and schedules.
• Familiarity with local/state permitting processes and regulatory coordination.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage site development and civil engineering projects from proposal through construction, including scope, schedule, and budget oversight.
• Design and review site layout, grading, stormwater, utilities, and erosion control.
• Prepare technical reports, plans, specs, cost estimates, and permit applications.
• Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure regulatory and client requirements are met.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies across all phases.
• Mentor junior engineers and staff, supporting career development and performance reviews.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on business development and client growth initiatives.
