Job summary

Community Youth Services seeks Overnight Counselors for the Young Adult Shelter in Olympia. You will provide a secure, supportive environment for 18–21‑year‑olds during night hours and contribute to crisis intervention and transition support.

Qualifications

• At least two years of direct experience or education in social sciences related to high-risk youth.
• Must carry a cell phone during working hours.
• Work three 12-hour overnight shifts weekly, starting at 8:45 pm.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe and stable environment for youth during shelter hours (9:00 PM - 8:30 AM).
• Offer crisis intervention, referrals, and support system strengthening.
• Record interactions and report significant events to the Program Director.
• Prepare evening snacks, track attendance, and manage participant identification and behavior.
• Assist with participant transitions into and out of the shelter.
• Maintain a healthy shelter environment and utilize best practices for positive behavior facilitation.
• Enforce rules to keep a calm atmosphere and manage safety decisions, including evictions or law enforcement contact if needed.
