Job summary

Federal Express Corporation is seeking a Yard Switcher/Package Handler to move trailers in the yard and assist with loading/unloading packages at the unload/load doors. You will handle trailer swaps, document movements, and ensure safety procedures are followed.

Qualifications

• No formal education required.
• No prior work experience required; six months in package handling or switching/CDL preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions about work duties and safety.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment like scanners, carts and chutes.

Responsibilities

• Perform trailer switches: hook and move trailers from yard to doors or doors to yard.
• Communicate with management to coordinate trailer movements.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Demonstrate yard switching safety processes and procedures.
• Load and unload packages by hand as needed, using hand-to-surface methods.
• Sort packages by scanning labels, reading charts, and memorizing information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
