Job summary

Animal Emergency of South Orange County is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician for our overnight emergency team in Mission Viejo, CA. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of veterinary experience and a CA RVT license, with a passion for emergency medicine and patient advocacy.

You will support veterinarians, monitor ICU patients, perform treatments, and collaborate with a skilled medical team in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of veterinary experience.
• Active Registered Veterinary Technician license in California.
• Emergency or specialty hospital experience preferred.
• Strong patient care and technical veterinary skills.
• Experience with patient monitoring, laboratory procedures, catheter placement, radiology, and treatment administration preferred.
• RECOVER CPR certification is a plus.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced emergency environment.
• Passion for patient advocacy and continuous learning.
• Commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and compassionate patient care.

Responsibilities

• Support veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians in providing high-quality emergency and critical care.
• Perform treatments, diagnostics, patient monitoring, and nursing care as permitted under the California Veterinary Practice Act and hospital protocols.
• Monitor hospitalized and ICU patients, recognizing and communicating changes in patient condition.
• Assist with emergency triage and patient stabilization.
• Obtain accurate patient histories and communicate professionally with clients.
• Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
• Safely restrain patients while following Fear Free and hospital safety practices when appropriate.
• Prepare and maintain treatment, surgery, and diagnostic areas.
• Perform laboratory procedures, collect samples, and assist with diagnostics as directed.
• Administer medications and treatments as permitted by state regulations and hospital protocols.
• Collaborate with doctors and teammates to provide exceptional patient care.
• Participate in our competency-based training program and ongoing professional development.
