Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northeast Portland, OR is seeking an experienced Certified Veterinary Technician to join our busy Emergency and Critical Care team. The role offers night hours (9:30pm–7:30am) with weekday and weekend night differentials, plus a $3,500 sign-on for qualified candidates.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will induce, monitor and recover anesthesia, triage critical cases, perform digital radiography, monitor vital signs, perform CPR when needed, and mentor junior

Qualifications

• CVT certification and current U.S. work eligibility.
• Experience in emergency/critical care preferred.
• Strong knowledge of vital signs and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• As Emergency Veterinary Technician, induce, monitor and recover anesthesia and use monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and obtain vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and patient positioning.
• Understand normal vital signs ranges including heart rate, temperature, BP and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs, alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medical math (CRIs) and administer medications correctly.
• Phlebotomy and placement of IV catheters in peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Show patience and empathy addressing client concerns.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an experienced Certified Veterinary Technician to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department in Northeast Portland (Hollywood), OR!

Schedule: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and every other Saturday 9:30pm-7:30am.

Shift Differentials:

• Weekday night: $3.50
• Weekend night: $5.00

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.

• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.

• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.

• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.

• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.

• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.

• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.

• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.

• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.

• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.

• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
