Job summary

The Salvation Army Social Services is seeking a program assistant for the Crossroads Men’s Emergency Shelter to support safety and guest services in a temporary overnight setting. The program assistant role focuses on dignity, adherence to shelter rules, and prompt escalation of unusual concerns to a supervisor.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Experience working with homeless or vulnerable populations preferred.
• Ability to work a 24-hour schedule and stay awake during night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Provide strong customer service to guests and maintain professional relationships.
• Ensure safety and security of households, staff, and volunteers.
• Answer phones and greet guests; manage front desk procedures.
• Maintain shift notes and client files according to standards.
• Conduct routine safety checks and respond to emergencies per protocols.
• Assist with meal service during designated times per ServSafe regulations.
