Job summary

Colorado Coalition for the Homeless seeks a Safety Associate I to help ensure a safe environment for clients, staff, vendors, volunteers, and visitors at multiple CCH locations. This role emphasizes de-escalation, crisis prevention, and trauma-informed safety, while never serving as law enforcement.

This position requires site safety duties, collaboration with law enforcement when needed, and ongoing safety training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
• Bi-lingual English-Spanish and/or ASL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure safety.
• Assist staff in assessing potentially dangerous situations and intervene as necessary to prevent escalation.
• Escort employees as needed to promote staff safety.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with CCH safety procedures and visitor policies.
• Provide crisis intervention support using verbal de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches.
• Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency personnel as needed.
• Document and submit incident reports involving safety concerns or interventions.

Position Summary

The Safety Associate I is responsible for ensuring the safety of clients, staff, vendors, volunteers, and other visitors at assigned Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) locations. This role focuses on de-escalation, crisis prevention, and maintaining a trauma-informed approach to safety while promoting a safe environment. Safety Associates at CCH are not an extension of law enforcement but serve as proactive safety professionals in a supportive capacity. This role works at or within a defined CCH location in a dynamic environment supporting the safety needs of CCH staff, clients and residents.

Duties/Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

• Conduct regular inspections of assigned Coalition sites to ensure a safe environment.
• Assist staff in assessing potentially dangerous situations and intervene as necessary to prevent escalation.
• Escort employees as needed to promote staff safety.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with CCH safety procedures and visitor policies
• Provide crisis intervention support, focusing on verbal and physical de-escalation methodologies, while adhering to trauma-informed principles.
• Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and emergency healthcare personnel as needed.
• Document and submit reports on all incidents involving physical intervention or security concerns.
• Participate in and apply knowledge from ongoing safety and de-escalation training.
• Ensure timely & accurate use of all company systems as required while maintaining complete up-to-date records and any future upgrades as directed.
• Foster and maintain an inclusive and respectful work environment that promotes a team-oriented work environment.
• Utilize advanced verbal de-escalation skills in addition to CCH Non-Violent Crisis Intervention methods.
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Education, Licensure and Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR/First Aid Certification required within 30 days of employment.
• Bi-lingual English-Spanish and/or ASL preferred

Experience

• Experience working in high-volume environments preferred.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or in a direct human services role preferred.
• Experience as an EMT, firefighter, or first responder preferred.

• Knowledge of issues affecting individuals experiencing homelessness and a commitment to serving underserved populations.

• Ability to engage with individuals who may be experiencing crisis, behavioral health issues or substance use disorders while using a trauma-informed approach.

• May escort clients and/staff or participate in professional meetings in non-climate-controlled environments.
• Occasional exposure to noise, odors, or crowded environments.
• While not an expectation, physical intervention with clients may occur
