Job summary

Thresholds is seeking a Residential Support Specialist for overnight shifts to work with youth aged 16–21 in a residential setting in Chicago, IL. You will coach independence, teach life skills, and support mental health goals while maintaining safety and structure.

Responsibilities include one-on-one and group work, documenting progress, and modeling healthy relationships. Training is provided for Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, with emphasis on empathy, communication, and daily living support.

Qualifications

• Passion for mental health advocacy.
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
• Compassion and respect while working in someone’s home.
• Patience and willingness to meet youth where they’re at.
• Good writing skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to perform Therapeutic Crisis Intervention therapeutical restraint techniques, with training provided by Thresholds.

Responsibilities

• Teach independent living skills (hygiene, housekeeping).
• Assist residents with meals and daily living activities.
• Coach youth on coping skills and relationship building.
• Document progress, safety, medication management, and recovery notes.
• Maintain a safe and inviting living environment through regular cleaning.
