Job summary

Vermont Permanency Initiative is seeking an Overnight Awake Youth Counselor to support youth during nighttime hours in Bennington, VT. You’ll monitor safety, provide comfort, and follow supervisor directions.

This role offers full- and part-time hours, paid training, PTO, benefits, and opportunities for advancement. Must stay awake during shifts and protect confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with youth preferred.
• Must be able to stay awake during overnight shifts.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Follow nightly instructions from the building supervisor.
• Conduct regular room checks every 10 minutes.
• Provide comfort and support to youth who are awake.
• Maintain building security and complete shift documentation.
• Assist with light cleaning and laundry as needed.
• Respond to emergencies and follow safety procedures.
• Communicate promptly with the Night Awake Supervisor.
• Uphold confidentiality and company policies.

Your Role: Overnight Awake Youth Counselor

You’ll ensure the safety and well-being of youth during overnight hours. This awake position requires vigilance, compassion, and strong organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follow nightly instructions from the building supervisor
• Conduct regular room checks (every 10 minutes)
• Provide comfort and support to youth who are awake
• Maintain building security
• Complete shift documentation, light cleaning, laundry, and other duties
• Respond to emergencies and follow safety procedures
• Communicate promptly with the Night Awake Supervisor
• Uphold confidentiality and company policies

What We’re Looking For

• High School Diploma or GED
• Age 21+
• Prefer 2+ years’ experience working with youth (camp counselor, coach, babysitting, etc.)
• Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to stay awake and alert throughout the shift
