Job summary

Redwood Community Services, Inc. is hiring a Peer Support Counselor for an overnight, full-time position at Building Bridges in Ukiah, CA.

The counselor assists guests with shelter access, housing resources, laundry and shower facilities, and other services while promoting a respectful, supportive environment. The ideal candidate shows compassion and empathy toward individuals facing homelessness and trauma.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in homelessness, social services, hospitality, mental health, substance use, or similar areas
• Candidates with lived/personal experience with homelessness are strongly desired

Responsibilities

• Monitors guest interactions and behaviors to maintain a safe, supportive environment.
• Walks throughout the building and perimeter to check safety and security; intervenes in disruptive incidents.
• Communicates with on-call supervisor for assistance and incident reporting.
• Provides services aligned with Housing First, harm reduction, and person-centered approaches.
• Learns about substances and signs of overdose; administers Narcan/Naloxone when appropriate.
