Job summary

Drummac, Inc. in Goleta, California, is seeking a Passenger Rail Mechanic Apprentice to support the maintenance of passenger rail cars and locomotives. This full-time role operates overnight and involves inspections, repairs, and regulatory paperwork under supervision.

The Qualified Person will work with a team to perform air brake inspections, daily locomotive checks, and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, while adhering to safety protocols and company policies.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED or equivalent reading, writing and reasoning skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Trade school or formal railroad locomotive or diesel mechanical maintenance training required.
• Knowledge of locomotive mechanical or locomotive electrical or industrial heavy equipment mechanical experience required.

Responsibilities

• Performs air brake inspection of passenger cars and has knowledge of air brake systems.
• Performs locomotive daily inspection; able to troubleshoot and handle repair/replacement of parts.
• Troubleshoots passenger cars including toilets, air conditioning, doors, panels, lights, electrical systems and brake systems; performs repairs as needed.
• Ability to fill out regulatory, client and Company-required paperwork.
• Performs electrical tests, maintains batteries and electrical equipment on locomotives.
• Communicates findings of inspections to Supervisor in writing and/or verbally.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call is required.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate dynamic train schedules.
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement conditions.
• Wears protective equipment and follows safety protocols; safety is a priority.
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
