Job summary

Canadian Pacific Railway is seeking a Diesel Mechanic Apprentice to perform preventive and scheduled maintenance on locomotives in a safety-focused environment. You will work with qualified mechanics to inspect, repair and service diesel engines while building core technical skills.

The role suits mechanically inclined individuals who are eager to learn and committed to safety, with shifts including nights, weekends and holidays. Pre-employment checks and safety training are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Diesel engine maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand safety instructions in English.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, inspect, service, test and repair locomotives and related systems.
  • Diagnose diesel engine malfunctions and perform repairs per guidelines.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics and service manuals for tasks.
  • Evaluate parts for reuse, repair or replacement.
  • Modify and construct mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform low voltage repairs on locomotive electrical systems.
  • Service locomotive cabs including cleaning walls, toilets, windows and floors.
  • Operate overhead or mobile cranes, forklifts and hand tools.
