Overnight Line Cook (Full Time) - InterContinental Houston

Prepare meals in accordance with portion and quality standards specified in recipes. Control food usage to minimize waste.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advise supervisor of low inventory items; assist in receiving items and taking inventory as required; minimize waste.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments, including Sales & Marketing, Catering, Banquets, Outlets, Maintenance, and Guest Services. May occasionally interact directly with guests.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and well‑organized work area, including reach‑ins, walk‑ins, and counters. Report all unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
- Assist by performing ware washer or other duties as needed.
- Prepare and cook orders for daily operations.
- Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards in the kitchen area that meet or exceed the state and local Health Board inspection and InterContinental requirements.
- Notify supervisor or duty manager about any unsafe equipment, low supplies, or safety incidents.
- Help create a safe space by following safety procedures and wearing necessary protective equipment.
- May assist with other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills. Some food preparation experience or training preferred.
- Fluent in the local language.
- Ability to perform the following tasks:
- Carry or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stand and move about the kitchen.
- Handle food, objects, products, and utensils.
- Use communication skills when interacting with other cooks, wait staff, and supervisors.
- Read and write when preparing meals from a recipe or monitoring inventory.
- Apply basic mathematical skills, including percentages, quantities, and variances.
- Possess alcohol‑awareness certification, food service permit, or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency.
- Work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
BENEFITS
The hourly pay rate for this role is $18.50 in Houston, Texas. Salary may be adjusted based on experience and performance. Other benefits include paid time off; medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k); and a room discount.
