Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health's Pacific Northwest Pet ER & Specialty Center in Vancouver, WA is hiring a Veterinary Assistant - Emergency (Swing / Overnight). This full-time role supports licensed veterinarians and technicians in a busy 24/7 emergency hospital, with rotating holidays and on-call duties.

The ideal candidate has at least two years in veterinary medicine, ER preferred, and must obtain a Veterinary Medication Clerks License on hire.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of two years of experience in veterinary medicine. ER preferred.
• Must be able to obtain a Veterinary Medication Clerks License upon hire and keep active throughout the entirety of employment
• Must have a valid high school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of patient handling and restraint.
• Excellent communication skills. Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations.
• Ability to act as a team player, adhering to all core values of the hospital.

Responsibilities

• Manage and provide for the patient’s needs in the emergency department by assisting licensed technicians and veterinarians with patient care.
• Assist technicians with radiographic procedures.
• Prepare and run lab work.
• Obtaining accurate patient histories.
• Client communication
• Accurate record-keeping.
• Patient discharges.
• Restraint of patients for IV catheters, physical examinations, and minor procedures.
• Complete treatments of patients as assigned in a timely manner.
• Provide exceptional nursing care.
• Fill pre-printed prescriptions if a Med Clerk License is held.
• Basic drug calculations.
• Initiation of fluid therapy.
• Patient care of stable patients in isolation.
• All employees will be scheduled and expected to work rotating holiday shifts in the emergency and critical care departments.
• All employees are required to participate in the on-call rotation as needed. Shifts are subject to revisions and changes at the discretion of the hospital.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
• Clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
