Job summary

AEP Texas Company, Inc. is seeking a skilled Line Mechanic to perform installation, maintenance, and inspection of de-energized transmission and distribution facilities under supervision.

Responsibilities include patrolling lines, installing poles and conductors, and following safety practices to protect personnel and assets. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of transmission power line experience (or equivalent training), and a valid Class A CDL.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• Minimum of one year transmission electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as: successful completion of a one-year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or transmission electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or transmission electrical power line experience.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.
• Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
• Patrol transmission lines using maps and drawings.
• Install, maintain and repair overhead lines.
• Dig holes for poles, towers and anchors.
• Set poles, tower below-ground components, and guy anchorages.
• Replace or stub poles, dead or energized.
• Assemble tower components on the ground and in the air.
• Frame pole structures on the ground and in the air.
• Perform climbing maintenance on all transmission structures, except on cross-arms carrying energized conductors.
• Identify conductor types and sizes.
