Job RequirementsWe are seeking a skilled Overhead Crane Operator to safely operate and control overhead cranes used to move, lift, and position heavy materials or equipment in the workplace. The operator is responsible for adhering to safety protocols, communicating effectively with ground staff, and ensuring that loads are securely handled. The role is vital for maintaining efficient workflow and safety in construction, manufacturing, or warehouse settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Crane Operation: Safely operate overhead cranes to lift, move, and position materials such as steel beams, heavy machinery, and large loads within the designated worksite.
- Load Handling: Attach rigging and slings to loads and guide crane movements in coordination with ground personnel to ensure safe and accurate positioning.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Perform daily inspections of the crane and associated equipment to ensure it is functioning properly. Report any malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all site-specific safety regulations and industry standards for crane operation, including load limits and safety protocols.
- Load Calculations: Calculate and confirm the weight of loads to ensure that they do not exceed the crane’s load capacity.
- Communication: Work closely with riggers, spotters, and other personnel via hand signals or radio to coordinate crane movements.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs of crane operations, load weights, and any maintenance performed.
- Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve minor crane or equipment issues to avoid delays or downtime.
- Worksite Cleanliness: Ensure the working area around the crane is kept clear of obstructions and hazards.
Work ExperienceRequired Skills & Qualifications:
- Certification: Valid crane operator certification (such as NCCCO or equivalent) is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience operating overhead cranes or similar heavy lifting equipment in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction environment.
- Mechanical Knowledge: Basic understanding of crane mechanics and the ability to perform routine maintenance checks.
- Load Management: Familiarity with weight calculations, rigging techniques, and safety practices for handling heavy loads.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with riggers and ground personnel via hand signals or radio.
- Physical Ability: Capable of working in physically demanding conditions, including standing, climbing, and handling equipment in various weather conditions.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards related to crane operation and construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with different types of cranes (gantry cranes, mobile cranes, tower cranes, etc.).
- Knowledge of rigging and signaling techniques.
- Experience in construction or industrial manufacturing environments.
- Forklift or other heavy equipment certification is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Work is primarily performed in industrial settings, construction sites, or manufacturing facilities, with exposure to loud noise, heavy equipment, and hazardous conditions.
- Must be comfortable working at heights and in variable weather conditions.
- May involve shift work, including nights, weekends, or overtime.
