Job summary

Johnson Barrow is a leading HVAC manufacturers’ representative in the Pacific Northwest. We seek an Outside Sales Engineer to drive growth with engineers, contractors and building owners, applying HVAC knowledge to identify opportunities and manage sales from proposal to commissioning.

You will provide technical system design guidance, write specifications, and develop tailored take-offs and detailed proposals while maintaining exceptional customer support and long-term relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in HVAC sales or business development.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems and applications.
  • Experience selling to contractors and engineers.
  • Proven ability to develop proposals and prepare takeoffs.
  • Proficient CRM and MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with owners, engineers, contractors, and end-users.
  • Identify and develop opportunities with new and existing customers using HVAC knowledge.
  • Drive annual sales growth and secure long-term opportunities in the Northwest.
  • Provide technical design support, product selection, and specification writing.
  • Prepare detailed proposals, estimates, and take-offs tailored to needs.
  • Manage projects from design through commissioning with quality and satisfaction.
  • Coordinate between branch staff, customers, and partners for smooth workflow.
  • Analyze feasibility assessments and bid documents for potential projects.
  • Maintain and expand technical product knowledge to serve customers.
  • Deliver high standards of customer support throughout the sales cycle.

This position plays a critical role in achieving annual sales targets while contributing to the long-term development of the region’s business.Key Responsibilities:Establish and maintain strong relationships with owners, engineers, contractors, and end-users.Identify and develop opportunities with new and existing customers using HVAC product knowledge and applications expertise.Drive annual sales growth and secure long-term business opportunities in the Northwest region.Provide technical expertise on system design, product selection, and specification writing.Prepare detailed sales proposals, estimates, and take-offs tailored to customer needs.Manage projects from the design phase through commissioning, ensuring quality and customer satisfaction.Facilitate smooth communication and workflow between branch office staff, customers, and partners.Process and analyze feasibility assessments and bid documents for potential projects.Maintain and expand your technical product knowledge to better serve customer needs.Deliver high standards of customer support throughout the sales cycle and beyond.Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering*Three years of experience direct selling, marketing, or designing HVAC products for mechanical contractors or design engineers.Three years of business development and relationship management within the HVAC industry.Skills and QualificationsThree years’ experience in Sales and marketing, with the ability to strategically present HVAC equipment solutions to mechanical contractors and engineers, including mentoring quotations and presenting proposals.Three years’ technical experience in pre-sale and post-sale support for HVAC equipment from over 100 manufacturers.Three years’ experience utilizing customer relationship management skills, including anticipating and meeting customer needs effectively.Three years of experience using organizational and communication skills to manage jobs at various stages of development.Three years’ experience creatively and proactively utilizing problem-solving abilities to address application issues, delivery delays, billing discrepancies, and job site concerns.Five years’ experience and proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications for selection, pricing, quoting, submittals, ordering, expediting, and billing for HVAC projects, as well as effective communication with factories and customers.* in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, will accept an additional 2 years of experience as delineated above .Pay Range: $100,000 base salary or depending on experience, converting to a commission structure after first yearTotal RewardsAt Johnson Barrow, we believe in recognizing and rewarding the contributions of our employees.
