Job summary

Aerotek is hiring an experienced Outside Machinist for work at Huntington Ingalls Shipyard in Newport News, VA. The contract position is based out of Norfolk, VA with pay of $35.00 per hour and a $140 per diem.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of Outside Machinist experience and familiarity with U.S. Navy or commercial vessels. Responsibilities include installing and aligning propulsion equipment, performing valve work, and operating shop equipment on site.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as an Outside Machinist.
• Experience working on U.S. Navy or commercial vessels.

Responsibilities

• Install and align pumps, motors, engines, and propulsion equipment.
• Perform valve overhauls and hydrostatic testing.
• Repair AC and refrigeration systems.
• Operate lathes, boring bars, and milling/drilling equipment.
• Install hydraulic systems, air compressors, and shipboard equipment.
• Use precision measuring tools to ensure proper alignment and fit.
• Support shafting, bearing work, and system testing.
