Qualifications

• Typically has a High School diploma or equivalent plus relevant work experience.
• Must meet journeyman exterior machinist requirements for the J1–J4 levels.
• Ability to read and use tech manuals and blueprints and specification items.
• Ability to read precision measuring instruments and use related tools.

Responsibilities

• Ensure work authorization forms (WAF) are posted for specific repairs.
• Follow safety-related procedures and use protective equipment.
• Train and qualify for assigned work tasks (e.g., welding, electrical) as needed.
• Maintain safety and quality on site while maximizing productivity.
• Complete repairs or installations with minimal supervision.
• Coordinate with foremen and crew leads for priorities.
• Work across journeyman levels to support shipyard operations.
