The Doe Fund in Brooklyn is seeking an Outreach Specialist/Lab Technician to join our Ready, Willing & Able program and related administrative tasks. You will meet with clients, collect intake information, and help manage databases and records.

Outreach Specialist/Lab Technician

Our flagship Ready, Willing & Able (RWA) program provides paid transitional work experience, transitional housing, advanced occupational training, and comprehensive supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The Doe Fund is also one of New York City’s largest nonprofit developers of permanent, affordable, and supportive housing, with more than 1,900 units in operation or pre-development. The Doe Fund has an annual operating budget of $80 million and a full-time staff of nearly 500, a significant portion of whom are graduates of our programs.

The Doe Fund has an annual operating budget of $65 million and a full-time staff of 400+.

We are presently seeking a Recruiter/Lab Technician to join the organization at our Gates Avenue, Brooklyn location. The position is 5 days per week. Must work at least one weekend shift.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • You have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • You have experience with criminal justice or the homeless population, or the ability and desire to learn and adjust quickly to the population
  • You have excellent client contact skills, including a dedication to treating all clients with dignity and respect
  • You are computer proficient (must master two databases, and the position relies heavily on email contact)
  • You are an independent worker, and able to navigate varying situations without onsite Supervisory support

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet with every new Client to introduce program structure, guidelines, and expectation
  • Orient Client to new surroundings, provide initial bedding and toiletries
  • Complete detailed interview and paper intake with Client
  • Enter all intake information into two databases (CARES & TDF Database)
  • Construct an initial Independent Living Plan (ILP) with every new Client
  • Assist with House Management duties whenever possible, including digital bed management, urine collection for toxicology, building rounds, etc.
  • Recruitment; Interview; background checks and assess prospective clients for entry into Doe Fund ProgramsConduct Intakes and enter into the CTDB
  • Generate Intake Packages and Client folders
  • Maintain waiting list of program candidates
