Job description

Position Reports To: Supervisor

Hours: Full-time, occasional evening and weekend, required (Non-Exempt)

Job Summary:

The Outreach Specialist (OS) will conduct community outreach at health centers, provider offices, social service sites, local businesses and community events aimed at recruiting and effectively link individuals, families and businesses to resources and education. The Outreach Specialist will also be responsible for developing relationships with key community contacts, maintaining outreach logs and following up with potential clients. The Outreach Specialist will work closely with the Supervisor and other team members to provide input into the program documentation, training, procedures, and overall structure of the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Outreach Specialist will:

  • Develops relationships with providers and community organizations.
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to reach families with children 0-5 for Best Start
  • Assess client needs and identify relevant community resources
  • Participates in appropriate community meetings and events.
  • Conducts outreach at provider sites, community events, small businesses and community-based organizations to recruit potential clients.
  • Contact and build relationship with potential clients from outreach to encourage participation in the program and enroll them, if appropriate.
  • Identifies appropriate resources for clients and provides referrals as needed.
  • Updates and shares community resources.
  • Adheres to all program guidelines, policies and protocols and actively works toward achieving the goals of the program.
  • Attends and participates in all staff meetings, outreach community meetings, and individual supervision.
  • Participates in periodic workshops, webinars, conference calls, and regional meetings.
  • Attend all other AVPH meetings.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by leadership
  • Supports and adheres to the values and mission statement established by AVPH Board of Directors.

Experience & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Public Health, or a related field or at experience in the last two years for related work.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish).
  • Work a flexible dayshift schedule that includes some Saturdays, Sundays, and evenings.
  • Must pass background check and TB test clearance.
  • Vaccinated for COVID-19 highly encouraged.
  • Maintain CA driver’s license.
  • Must have automobile and proof of insurance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to assess families across a broad spectrum of areas, recognizing professional boundaries and the need for consultation from other disciplines.

  • Experience working with families from diverse ages, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Empathy, warmth, and the ability to establish ongoing supportive relationships with an ethnically diverse population.

  • Knowledgeable about local community resources and able to refer families to appropriate agencies.

  • Self-starter, with the ability to take initiative and require minimal supervision.

  • Ability to establish positive rapport with diverse populations, utilizing cross-cultural skills and knowledge of cultural and religious differences, attitudes, and practices.

  • Ability to develop relationships with providers and community organizations and provide input on communication and outreach strategies.

  • Skill in organizing and maintaining accurate records.

  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.

  • Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills preferred.

  • Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

** Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:**

  • Primarily in off-site community centers, community events, office setting and/or via a virtual platform.
  • Working with overburdened, often high-risk clients of low economic and varied cultural backgrounds, living in high-risk areas.
  • Office, and possible community settings.
  • Work often performed under stressful and emotional conditions.
  • This position requires lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs., stooping, bending, squatting, sitting on the floor, walking, running (may be needed).
