STEM Prep Lab provides innovative early STEM education programming through both on‑site experiences and traveling STEM classes throughout the community. We engage young learners through hands‑on, inquiry‑based STEM experiences designed to build curiosity, confidence, problem‑solving skills, and early exposure to STEM careers.
STEM Prep Lab partners with schools, childcare centers, community organizations, families, libraries, and other youth‑serving organizations to expand access to high‑quality STEM learning opportunities.
Role Description
The Outreach Specialist is a part‑time, mostly remote contractor role based in Philadelphia, PA, with a combination of remote administrative work and in‑person community outreach events.
This position is responsible for actively identifying, contacting, and developing relationships with potential schools, childcare centers, community organizations, families, and program partners to increase awareness, enrollment, and partnership opportunities for STEM Prep Lab programs.
This is a proactive outreach position. The Outreach Specialist will be expected to consistently initiate contact with prospective partners rather than only responding to incoming inquiries.
Weekly Outreach Expectations
The Outreach Specialist will be expected to:
- Complete approximately 40–50 new outreach contacts per week through email, phone, direct messaging, community networking, or other approved outreach methods.
- Conduct at least 10–15 follow‑up contacts each week with organizations or families that have previously expressed interest.
- Identify at least 10 new potential schools, childcare centers, community organizations, or partnership leads each week.
- Work toward securing approximately 2–4 qualified meetings, tours, presentations, or partnership conversations per week.
- Attend or support approximately 1–2 community outreach events, school events, networking opportunities, or tabling events per month, as available.
- Respond to program inquiries within approximately one business day whenever possible.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, responses, follow-ups, meetings, and partnership status.
- Submit a brief weekly outreach report summarizing contacts made, responses received, meetings scheduled, enrollment leads, partnership opportunities, and recommended next steps.
Outreach goals may be adjusted based on program needs, enrollment periods, seasonal campaigns, and grant requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, childcare centers, community organizations, families, and other potential partners.
- Promote STEM Prep Lab programs, including on‑site programs, Travel STEM classes, workshops, camps, and community STEM experiences.
- Coordinate and attend outreach events, school events, community fairs, and networking opportunities.
- Respond professionally to inquiries and provide accurate program information.
- Assist prospective partners with understanding program options and next steps.
- Create and update outreach emails, flyers, information sheets, presentations, and other outreach materials.
- Maintain organized contact lists and outreach databases.
- Track leads from initial outreach through follow‑up, meeting, enrollment, or partnership.
- Conduct basic research to identify new neighborhoods, organizations, schools, and community needs.
- Follow up consistently with warm leads and prospective partners.
- Collaborate with program leadership and instructional staff to ensure accurate and consistent messaging.
- Represent STEM Prep Lab professionally at community and partner events.
- Support special enrollment and partnership campaigns as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and writing skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Customer service, outreach, community engagement, marketing, recruitment, or relationship‑building experience preferred.
- Comfortable initiating conversations with individuals and organizations that have not previously contacted STEM Prep Lab.
- Ability to conduct basic research to identify potential partners and community opportunities.
- Interest or experience in education, youth programming, early childhood education, community programming, or STEM‑related initiatives.
- Comfortable working independently and meeting weekly outreach goals.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple leads, deadlines, and follow‑up activities.
- Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, Google Workspace or similar digital tools.
- Experience using a CRM, contact management system, or outreach database is a plus.
- Ability to attend occasional in‑person events throughout Philadelphia.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Compensation
$15 per hour
This is a part‑time 15-20 hours per week, grant‑funded independent contractor position.
The position may lead to additional hours and expanded responsibilities based on performance, program growth, funding, and partnership development.
