The Society for Science in Washington, DC, is seeking a STEM Outreach Associate Specialist to support the day-to-day operations and growth of the STEM Outreach Programs within the Science Education Programs department. This is a full-time, non-exempt role that encompasses planning, administration, data handling, and participant communications.

The position requires strong communication and data skills, a background in STEM education, and a willingness to travel during competition weeks.

Job description

The STEM Outreach Associate Specialist will assist the day-to-day operations and continued growth of the STEM Outreach Programs as a supporting member of the Science Education Programs department of the Society for Science (Society).

This is a non-exempt position.

Responsibilities
  • Supports the organization, planning, and execution of the STEM Outreach Programs
  • Provides administrative support which includes assisting in administrative work, payments, and accounting processes
  • Provides data support such as maintenance of existing datasets within a Dynamics database and processing new datasets from online applications and forms
  • Provides customer service across programs by responding to email inquiries and communicating with program participants
  • Supports the community of educators through digital engagement via email and through social media communications
  • Supports the analysis of program participant feedback and the development of related summaries and reports
  • Completes other departmental projects and duties assigned
  • Supports other departmental programs before and during the competition weeks, which requires at least three weeks of time away from home, including at least one week of travel

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's undergraduate degree
  • Computer and data proficiency including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Desired Education and Experience
  • A degree in a STEM-related field or in education
  • Relational database knowledge and management (Dynamics, SQL, or other platforms)
  • Interest or experience with supporting STEM educators and/or students
  • Experience using application or data collection platforms such as RhythmQ, Form Assembly, Survey Monkey Apply, etc.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee usually works in an office setting. Our office is located near the Dupont Circle and Farragut North Metro stations. Society for Science is operating on a hybrid work schedule. This position is based in the DC metropolitan area.

Position Type and Expected Hours

This is a full-time (37.5 hr/wk), non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal office hours of the Society. The normal business hours of the Society are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. EST, with core hours of 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. EST.

Salary

The salary range is $50,000-$55,000

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
