JOB PURPOSE

Gwen’s Girls is advancing a comprehensive and sustainable model of education, wellness, and workforce readiness through the transformation of our new permanent home in Wilkinsburg into a dynamic Social Enterprise and Learning Hub. The STEMpowered Coordinator position will work closely with the Director of Education and Gwen’s Girls’ Leadership Team in planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the new model and learning hub. This position will be responsible for the integration of youth-centered social enterprise opportunities into programming, allowing participants to apply STEM and leadership skills through real-world projects, community partnerships, mentorship, and collaborative initiatives that build workplace readiness, creativity, and professional networks. This role also oversees STEMpowered Instructors/Consultants ensuring the delivery of engaging, hands-on STEM learning experiences that strengthen youth achievement in science and math while fostering participation and confidence.

POSITION SUMMARY
  • Ensures all aspects of STEMpowered and Social Enterprise programming comply with program expectations and ensures efficient implementation of all program activities.
  • Create STEM Innovation spaces and opportunities to develop digital fluency and creative skills in STEM, coding, multimedia production, and entrepreneurship and financial literacy fundamentals.
  • Assists with the development of meaningful activities and reviews the weekly lesson plans for program participants to ensure alignment with program standards.
  • Monitors progress and uses assessment data to plan effective lessons.
  • Utilizes best practices in classroom instruction to increase achievement and program outcomes.
  • Serves as liaison and ambassador for the program and assists in recruitment and retention.
  • Works to build a cohesive team and gives regular and appropriate feedback to team and to each direct report. Meets established team goals.
  • Works with program supervisors and staff across the organization to ensure academic assessments are being conducted and academic records are obtained, properly reviewed, and secured. Information will be documented under each client’s SPARK plan and input/uploaded to the Salesforce database.
  • Ensures staff maintain a safe, structured, and productive group environment. Coordinates and facilitates group activities, documents participants' behaviors and program outcomes, maintains required records, ensures pre- and post-surveys are administered for all STEMpowered and Social Enterprise programs, and reinforces group expectations to support participants' emotional and physical safety.
  • Establishes a caring, nurturing relationship with clients and families involved in the STEMpowered and Social Enterprise program, works cooperatively with the client, family, school, and other stakeholders to help the client meet their needs and reach academic and career goals.
  • Incorporates Sanctuary tools and practices into everyday interactions to create a trauma-informed environment, upholds the principles of Sanctuary to provide a therapeutic framework and culture.
  • Actively participates in all required team meetings, trainings, and supervisory sessions. Meets regularly with the Director of Education, communicates needs, concerns, and ideas openly; utilizes feedback given in supervisory sessions.
  • Performs in accordance with established system-wide competencies and receives satisfactory performance evaluations annually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Works in an afterschool setting with adolescent girls with adverse backgrounds. Staff must be prepared to engage in verbal and physical interventions in the event of a crisis.
  • Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching over head, speaking, hearing, reading comprehension, and the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • General Requirements: Indoors in busy office, working near co‑workers; frequently required to work at a fast pace; requires considerable concentration and creativity; weekend and evening work required; travel required (transporting clients).
QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s or Master’s in a relevant discipline (education, science, mathematics, engineering, computer science) or enrolled in a post‑secondary program with a STEM focus.

Licensure/Certification: N/A.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have demonstrated experience and content knowledge in math, science, technology, computers, or engineering. Teaching experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, special needs/at‑risk, and families preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of inequity issues that impact underserved communities.
  • Strong problem‑solving, interpersonal relationship, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills – knowledge of MS Windows, iOS/iPad functions, and Google applications; ability to use Zoom platform.
  • Effective time‑management skills.
  • Must be available to work evenings and some weekends when required.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle to travel to sites and to activities.
  • Valid PA driver’s license with an excellent driving record and reliable vehicle insurance 300/100,000 and registration, if required.
Clearances Required

PA Act 33 (Child Abuse), Act 34 (Criminal History), Federal Criminal History Record (FBI Fingerprint), National Sex Offender Registry.
