Job summary

Block by Block is hiring an Outreach Ambassador to engage with unhoused community members, build relationships, and guide people to social services in public spaces. The role involves outdoor work, bike travel, and weekly pay. If you are outgoing, compassionate, and community‑minded, this is a great fit.

The position emphasizes safety, de‑escalation, and collaboration with local agencies to improve neighborhoods. A valid driver's license and basic English reporting are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required. An associate degree is preferred.
• 1 year of community outreach or social services experience required.
• Must be physically able to ride a bike for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must be 18 years or older and able to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Frequently canvass the zone to engage with unhoused individuals and build trust.
• Direct individuals to services or more suitable locations.
• Advise on local services and connect them to appropriate agencies.
• De-escalate and redirect interactions with merchants or visitors in need.
• Establish relationships with agencies to coordinate responses to unsheltered individuals.
• Provide small comfort items like water or toiletries.

Job Title: Outreach Ambassador

Pay Range: $31.25to $31.25per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Pay Day!)

Shift/Schedule:

• Mon. Fri. from 7:30am to 4:00pm

Valid Driver's License REQUIRED

3-5 years of Social Work/Outreach background

MUST have the ability to work w/unhoused community members comfortably

What You'll Be Doing:

• Frequently canvass the zone to interact with and seek out the homeless/unhoused on the streets to build relationships of trust with a "compassion first" approach.
• Direct those in public spaces to services or more suitable locations.
• Have a strong understanding of the variety of social services available to persons in need within their community, and suggest the right services to those who are ready to help themselves. Direct them to services and agencies to meet their needs.
• Respond when merchants or visitors request engagement with someone who may be in need to help de-escalate and redirect their activities.
• Establish relationships with agencies that are in place to respond to the needs of the homeless. Strive toward a cooperative effort to make a positive impact on the unsheltered in your zone.
• Providing small comfort items, such as water, toiletries, or other similar items.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
