City of Baytown is seeking a Public Affairs Coordinator to support the Public Affairs Department in dialogue, engagement, and marketing with residents and City government. You will coordinate listening tours, surveys, forums, and lead the public engagement committee.
The role involves planning public information materials, representing the City at events, and coordinating with vendors on marketing collateral and outreach projects.
This position will support the Public Affairs Department in creating opportunities for public dialogue, engagement, and marketing, and will be a key player in building trust, connection, and commitment among residents and between the community and City government. This position coordinates the City's community listening and feedback efforts, including the comprehensive community survey program, micro-survey initiatives, Listening Tours, and public forums, and serves in a lead coordinating role for the City's public engagement committee, which brings together members of the public to discuss and help guide the City's overall outreach efforts.
As a representative of the City of Baytown, this position will be responsible for promoting and marketing various City services, operations, and activities, including, but not limited to, public infrastructure improvements, capital projects, planning and development projects, and health and well-being programs to the City's various publics and audiences. Alongside others in the department, plans, develops, manages, and produces public information products such as brochures, fact sheets, audio/visual programs, website and social media content, and other informational, educational, and promotional materials. Serves as an internal resource, coordinating with department staff on communication strategies. This position helps to create and coordinate outreach and promotional materials, advertisements, internet content, and marketing collateral for various departments.
Ability to multitask, establish priorities, work independently, and maintain organization. Strong written and oral communication skills required. Comprehensive knowledge of office practices and procedures. Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of public contact and community engagement, including surveys, listening sessions, and public forums. Ability to facilitate group discussions and committee meetings. Work requires continual attention to detail in entering, composing, typing and proofing data and materials. Knowledge of business machine operations, personal computers and related software, and accounting/billing processes. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations with both internal and external customers. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including community leaders, area nonprofits, City officials, management staff, employees/co-workers, and the general public.

Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work more than 40 hours a week. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
