Purpose And Scope

The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 2 may be an entry level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) for new employees who meet the RN CAP 2 criteria or attained through advancement from RN CAP 1. This position is accountable for the provision and coordination of clinically competent care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. It may include delegation of appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff including RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As a member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, this position participates in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

All duties are expected to be performed in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, standards of nursing practice, and regulations.

1. Perform functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other RNs.
2. Collect and analyze patient data during dialysis, document, and adjust treatment plans as needed, notifying the team as appropriate.
3. Assess and document patient/family learning needs, providing education accordingly.
4. Deliver safe and effective hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with care staff.
5. Administer prescribed medications and document effectiveness.
6. Initiate or assist with emergency responses.
7. Serve as a resource, mentor, and role model for staff.
8. Ensure proper laboratory procedures are followed and reschedule missed collections.
9. Update nursing assessments and care plans through collaboration.
10. Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment options.
11. Participate in education and quality improvement projects.
12. May serve as a Preceptor for new employees.
13. Complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Includes heavy lifting, prolonged standing, equipment movement, exposure to infectious materials, and potential travel.

Supervision

Oversight of staff after meeting specific training and experience requirements.

Education and Licensure

Graduate of an accredited Nursing program, current licensure, CPR/BLS certification, and practice in the state.

Experience and Skills

Minimum 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience for entry-level RNs.

Pay rate: $36.00 - $62.00 hourly, depending on location and qualifications.
