Purpose and Scope

The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry-level position into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This role is responsible for providing and coordinating clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. Delegation of tasks to direct patient care staff such as RNs, LVNs/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians may be involved. As part of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, this position participates in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes and facility operations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform duties in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, standards of nursing practice, and regulations.
• Under supervision and guidance, perform patient assessments and document findings, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
• Educate patients and families about their care and treatment options.
• Administer medications as prescribed and document effectiveness.
• Assist in emergency response measures when necessary.
• Serve as a resource for the healthcare team and participate in staff training and orientation.
• Ensure proper laboratory procedures are followed and reschedule missed collections.
• Update patient care plans collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
• Complete CAP requirements for advancement.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This role involves physical activities such as heavy lifting, moving patients, prolonged standing, and assisting with ambulation. The environment is a healthcare facility with typical noise and temperature controls. May involve travel and exposure to infectious materials.

Supervision

Oversee Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs as a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge, upon meeting all training and experience requirements.

Education and Licensure

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current state licensure.
• CPR/BLS Certification.
• Meet state practice requirements.

Experience and Skills

• Entry-level RN with less than 1 year of recent Nephrology Nursing experience.
• Minimum of 9 months RN experience preferred.
• Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred.
