Job summary

The Recruiting Hive is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant to join our outpatient services team in Ithaca, NY. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to implement individualized treatment plans and guide patients through exercises and functional activities.

Responsibilities include education, discharge planning, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, with a target schedule 6:00 AM–6:00 PM and potential weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited PTA program (or equivalent).
• Current New York State PTA license or eligibility.
• Current CPR Certification.
• Must complete yearly safety in-services and HealthStream trainings.

Responsibilities

• Provides skilled PTA treatment under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Implements individualized treatment plans to meet patient goals and functional needs.
• Instructs and assists patients with therapeutic exercises and activities of daily living.
• Assists with safe use of devices (crutches, walkers, canes, orthotics).
• Delivers modalities as directed (hot/cold packs, ultrasound, e-stim).
• Performs activities and manual therapy within PTA scope under supervision.
• Monitors and documents patient responses; reports progress or changes to PT.
• Communicates progress to PT and adjusts treatment as needed.
• Participates in discharge planning and reinforces home exercise programs.
• Educates patients and caregivers on exercises, safety, mobility, and home program adherence.
• Documents care, treatment, responses, and charges in EMR; adheres to NYS requirements and facility policies.
