Job summary

Health Solutions West in Grand Junction, CO is seeking an Outpatient Psychiatric Medical Assistant to support prescribers and the treatment team. Responsibilities include medication management, EHR documentation, and coordinating labs and referrals.

The ideal candidate will have a Medical Assistant program graduate with CMA/RMA/CCMA certification, BLS, and experience in behavioral health. Travel is not required; a fast-paced outpatient setting offers team-based collaboration and ongoing

Responsibilities

• Maintain competency with the electronic health record (EHR).
• Prepare clients for medication management appointments with vitals and screenings.
• Administer medications, including long-acting injectables, within scope.
• Perform phlebotomy and coordinate laboratory testing.
• Coordinate care with external providers, hospitals, and pharmacies.
• Handle medication prior authorizations and pharmacy communication.
• Support medication adherence and client education.
• Participate in team huddles and care planning.
• Provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.

This position plays a key role in medication management services, care coordination, client engagement, and supporting positive treatment outcomes for individuals receiving behavioral health treatment in an outpatient setting.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain competency and proficiency with the electronic health record (EHR).Prepare clients for medication management appointments, including vital signs, depression screenings, suicide risk screenings, medication reconciliation, and documentation.Administer medications and long-acting injectable medications within scope of practice.Perform phlebotomy, coordinate laboratory testing, and communicate results as directed.Answer and triage medication support calls, refill requests, medication concerns, and EHR messages.Complete medication prior authorizations and collaborate with insurance providers and pharmacies.Coordinate care with external providers, hospitals, pharmacies, and community agencies.Complete external patient forms and required clinical documentation.Support medication adherence and provide client education.Order and maintain medical supplies.Manage medication samples, logs, storage, and disposal of expired medications.Participate in team huddles, care planning, and quality improvement initiatives.Provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.Understand behavioral health and substance use disorders and support client recovery goals.Perform other duties as assigned.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED.Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.Current CMA, RMA, or CCMA certification.Current BLS certification.Computer and EHR proficiency.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outpatient psychiatric setting.Ability to maintain professional boundaries while engaging individuals experiencing psychiatric symptoms, emotional distress, substance use disorders, and crisis situations.Valid Colorado driver license if required for business purposes.Must be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship not available.Preferred QualificationsOne or more years of experience in psychiatry, behavioral health, addiction medicine, primary care, or community mental health.Experience administering long-acting injectable psychiatric medications.Experience completing psychiatric medication prior authorizations.Knowledge of psychotropic medications and behavioral health diagnoses.Experience supporting individuals with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, trauma-related disorders, and substance use disorders.Training in trauma-informed care and verbal de-escalation techniques.Phlebotomy experience.Spanish language proficiency.Work EnvironmentFast-paced outpatient behavioral health clinic environment.Frequent interaction with clients, prescribers, nurses, clinicians, case managers, pharmacies, and community partners.Team-oriented setting emphasizing collaboration, respect, learning, and professional growth.May involve responding to clients experiencing emotional distress, psychiatric symptoms, or behavioral health crises.Physical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods.Ability to perform injections, phlebotomy, vital signs, and specimen collection.Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.Frequent use of computers, phones, and office equipment.Health Solutions West Staff ExpectationsAdapt to change and embrace opportunities for innovation and improvement.Take ownership of problems and work collaboratively toward solutions.Demonstrate accountability and follow-through.Maintain competence in required job knowledge and skills.Model teamwork, professionalism, and Human Kindness.Demonstrate trust-building, flexibility, respectful communication, and exceptional customer service.Must already be authorized to work in the US; sponsorships not available.
