Assist patients in reaching maximum physical performance while adjusting to disabilities. Restore patient physical functioning by interpreting physical therapy evaluations and test results, determining treatment goals and plans, and administering manual exercises. Instruct, encourage, and assist patients in performing physical activities and using assistive devices.
Responsibilities
- Complete billing sheets accurately by end of day.
- Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
- Perform patient assessment and establish a plan of care.
- Provide in‑service education programs for nursing personnel as needed.
- Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
- Discuss evaluation, goals, and treatment with both patient and family.
- Participate in hospital‑wide quality process improvement.
- Supervise PTAs according to organization policy and state regulations.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy required.
- Master's Degree in Physical Therapy preferred.
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) preferred (required for licensure after 2016).
Licenses and Credentials
- Physical Therapist – Massachusetts License (required)
- Basic Life Support – Various Issuers (required)
- Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License – State License (preferred)
Experience
- Experience completing an internship or apprenticeship program: 1–2 years preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems.
- Effective written communication tailored to the audience.
- Teaching others how to perform tasks.
- Strong problem‑solving, case management, and communication abilities.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
