Job description

The level 1 Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) has the responsibility of assisting Physical Therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures, as directed. They assist in all treatment including therapeutic exercise, massage, electrical stimulation, thermal modalities, traction and ultrasound. They are clinically skilled to perform advanced manual skills including joint mobilization, stretching, and taping to carry out PT specific plan of care. Ages of patients range from pediatric to geriatric populations. The PTA will document all progress and modify specific treatments appropriate to patient need based on the scope of treatment established by Physical Therapist. The PTA practices in collaboration with all other members of the interdisciplinary team, participates in educational activities, and provides coverage within the Rehabilitation Department as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The level 1 PTA assists Physical Therapists in providing treatments and procedures, assisting with all aspects of therapy including therapeutic exercises, manual skills, and patient education. They work across diverse patient age groups, document progress, and collaborate with the team to optimize patient outcomes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  1. Implement treatment plans: Independently deliver individual and group treatments, monitor patient responses, and adjust programs accordingly. Maintain therapeutic relationships and communicate progress effectively.
  2. Support assessment and planning: Assist in evaluating treatment effectiveness, document interventions, and collaborate on care adjustments.
  3. Compliance and documentation: Adhere to policies, complete documentation accurately, and meet productivity standards.
  4. Professional growth: Engage in ongoing learning, stay current with advances, and understand relevant regulations.
  5. Program development and evaluation: Contribute to program development, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
  6. Collaborate with team: Serve as a resource, support staff, and participate in meetings and educational activities.
  7. Community and student engagement: Orient staff and community members, and provide training and supervision for students.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant from an accredited institution.
  • Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts PTA license or eligibility, CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • 1-3 years of experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of various physical therapy domains, excellent communication skills, and ability to work independently.
