Job summary

BayCare seeks an Outpatient Physical Therapist for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, FL. The role requires evaluating patients, designing personalized treatment plans, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to support safe discharge and functional recovery.

Location is on-site at St. Joseph’s Medical Art Building in Tampa, with 8- or 10-hour shifts, and no remote work. BLS, PT licensure or eligibility, and a PT degree are required; licensure may be obtained within six months.

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy
• Temporary licensure and eligibility within 6 months may be acceptable

Responsibilities

• Review patient medical history and diagnoses.
• Perform tests: range of motion, strength, balance, gait and mobility.
• Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans with goals and timelines.
• Use therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, modalities, and assistive devices.
• Coordinate discharge planning with physicians, nursing and therapy teams.
• Supervise PT assistants and students as needed.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and patient safety standards.

Outpatient Physical Therapist Responsibilities

• Review medical history and diagnosis.
• Perform tests: range of motion, muscle strength, coordination, balance, respiration, sensation, posture, motor function.
• Evaluate efficacy and safety of mobility and transfers: bed mobility, sit ‑ to ‑ stand, gait, etc.
• Develop individualized, evidence ‑ based treatment plans with measurable goals and timelines.
• Use therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, functional mobility training, modalities (e.g., ultrasound, electrical stimulation), and assistive devices.
• Adjust plan as patient progresses; reassess and update goals accordingly.
• Instruct on proper exercise technique, safe transfer methods, use of DME (walkers, canes, orthotics)
• Train caregivers/families on home exercise programs and precautions.
• Communicate with physicians, nursing, case-management, social workers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other team members through rounds and conferences to coordinate discharge planning and care goals.
• Responsible for providing the appropriate level of clinical direction for Physical Therapy Assistants, Rehabilitation Technicians, Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistant students and volunteers.
• Team members with temporary permits must work under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist that has been licensed for a minimum of six months. A supervising licensed Physical Therapist may only supervise one permittee at any given time.
