Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I in Outpatient Pharmacy. The role supports pharmacists in preparation, dispensing, and record-keeping, under direct supervision. 0.2 FTE (8 hrs/week) with shift variations, on-site at our Michigan location.

The incumbent will assist with drug preparation, inventory, and patient discharge procedures, requiring strong math skills and good communication. Prior hospital or retail pharmacy experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school graduate or equivalent; college courses preferred.
• Michigan pharmacy technician licensure required or in process.
• PTCB or NHA certification required or must obtain within 1 year/3 attempts.
• 1–2 years hospital or retail pharmacy experience preferred.
• Strong math/algebra background.
• ASHP/USP 797 aseptic technique certification preferred.
• Accurate, independent worker with good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Procure and distribute medication orders as directed by physicians/pharmacists.
• Maintain clean, safe working environment and restock meds and IVs.
• Manage inventory and Pyxis restocking; replace outdated drugs.
• Document procedures, logs, and ensure security of meds and records.
• Train new employees and assist Pharmacist; perform duties as delegated.
• Complete procedures for patient discharge and related pharmacy tasks.
