Job Summary

The technician, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with all state and federal laws, assists with the selection, procurement, storage, preparation, record keeping, financial reconciliation, and dispensing of all medications dispensed to outpatients through Medical Village Pharmacy. They provide guided oversight and coordination of hospice, 3rd party claims, offsite facilities (e.g., Mubea, Aurora Casket), assist with Discharge Medication Delivery Service prescription filling and/or Specialty Pharmacy. They monitor inventory and the ordering process. The technician must demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and staff, regardless of cultural background.

Responsibilities
  • Answer phone calls promptly and courteously, complying with HIPAA regulations.
  • Greet customers warmly and assist with their needs.
  • Resolve issues promptly, documenting relevant information on patient records.
  • Ensure stock is in date by overseeing expiration date checks and maintaining a clean, organized pharmacy following the 5 Ss method.
  • Monitor hospice prescriptions, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to procedures and laws.
  • Assist pharmacists in dispensing medications accurately and timely. Understand third-party billing and help resolve related issues.
  • Assist with ordering and delivery processes, including ordering from wholesalers, receiving, checking, and shelving items using FIFO principles.
  • Understand and assist with specialized programs like Discharge Medication Delivery, Meds to Beds, and immunizations.
  • Handle medication requests from offsite partners, understanding the processes for each (e.g., MD Scripts, Packedge, Excel labels).

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • PTCB or NHA certification
  • BOP registration as per state regulations
Knowledge & Skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Customer service and ICARE attitude
  • Understanding of the metric system and Rx calculations
  • Typing and computer skills, including Microsoft Excel
  • Medical terminology and medication knowledge, including top 100 drugs and schedules; passing a written exam with at least 80% score
Preferred Qualifications
  • Inventory management experience
  • Experience with diverse populations
  • Proficiency in multiple languages
  • Experience with MTM billing, Medicare B billing, 340B program, prior authorization processes, retail or specialty pharmacy experience
