Job summary

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy.
• English proficiency: proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
• Experience or Education: One year of creditable experience in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, medical coding, and health records; or an associate degree or higher with three years of clinical documentation improvement experience; or completion of an AHIMA approved coding program leading to coding certification eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Classify and code medical data from patient health records across hospital and physician-based settings.
• Identify non-compliance in coding, facilitate improved data quality, and re-educate staff on audit results.
