Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Medical Assistant to support outpatient care sites under general supervision. The role includes taking vital signs, injections, simple diagnostic tests, specimen collection, sterilization, and maintaining examination rooms.

The position requires documenting in the EMR, assisting physicians, scheduling and coordinating patient appointments, and handling communications. A high school diploma and at least 3 years of MA experience with EPIC knowledge are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Knowledge of EPIC software; EPIC super user may be required.
• Three years of directly-related Medical Assistant experience required.

Responsibilities

• Intake patients by obtaining vital signs and weight.
• Obtain history, chief complaint, medications, allergies, and document in the EMR.
• Report pertinent findings to physicians.
• Manage patient appointments according to schedules and protocols.
• Answer messages from patients per clinic policy.
• Handle medication refills or requests per policy.
• Prepare charts for next appointments and provide test results and records as requested.
• Communicate patient information to physicians promptly.
• Answer external and internal calls and assist in the department call center.
• Perform Point of Care Testing (POCT) and report results to RN or Provider.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
