Job summary

Acadia Healthcare’s San Diego Comprehensive Treatment Center is seeking a Substance Use Counselor to support patients with opioid use disorder through individual and group counseling. The role emphasizes compassionate, evidence-based care and accurate documentation.

You will assess, plan, implement and monitor treatment plans, provide crisis intervention, and coordinate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care. This is a full-time on-site position in San Diego, CA.

Qualifications

• HS graduate or equivalent required.
• Prefer Bachelor's or Master’s degree in social or health services field.
• Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
• Experience in addiction recovery or behavioral health settings.
• Familiarity with MAT (methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone).
• Experience conducting individual and group counseling sessions.
• Knowledge of CBT, MI, relapse prevention techniques.
• Documentation experience per state/federal guidelines.
• Familiarity with 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA, Joint Commission standards.
• Team collaboration with medical staff, case managers, and peers.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality, compassionate guidance in individual and group counseling sessions.
• Plan, oversee, facilitate and document patient recovery.
• Co-facilitate assigned group or family sessions as needed.
• Ensure all documentation regarding patient care is completed timely and clearly.
• Prepare individual treatment plans for each patient.
• Conduct initial and follow-up assessments.
• Evaluate patient needs and determine referrals to other programs.
• Plan for aftercare for assigned patients as needed.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Carry out case management duties for patients.
• Act as liaison between referral sources and patients.
