Covenant Health is seeking a Coding Analyst for Centralized Coding Outpatient to join our Knoxville-area team. This full-time role analyzes medical records to assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes, confirms DRG assignments, and supports timely billing with physician clarification as needed.

The position emphasizes accurate data abstraction, adherence to UHDDS standards, and collaboration with clinical staff to ensure proper coding and reimbursement. Day shift, 80 hours per pay period.

Qualifications

• ICD-10-CM and CPT coding knowledge is preferred.
• Ability to analyze medical records and determine coding requirements.
• Understanding of UHDDS standards and data abstraction principles.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records to determine ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes in line with guidelines.
• Verify data in the abstract and accurately enter clinical information to maintain database integrity.
• Abstract and code principal diagnosis, procedures, complications and comorbid conditions.
• Support timely billing by reviewing unbilled accounts and adjusting records as needed.
• Collaborate with physicians for documentation clarification and coding questions.

Education

Associate’s degree

Bachelor’s degree in a directly-related field
