Job summary

MUSC Health is seeking an Outpatient CDI Specialist to enhance clinical documentation and outpatient HCC coding. The role blends CDI expertise with compliant coding practices, reporting to the Outpatient CDI Program Manager.

The ideal candidate has a nursing background with extensive clinical experience, strong communication with physicians, and knowledge of ICD-10-CM guidelines to improve documentation and reimbursement for outpatient services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and at least five years' clinical nursing experience preferred.
• Strong clinical experience and critical thinking skills required.
• Extensive knowledge of patient care and clinical measurement tools and outcomes; ability to establish cooperative relationships.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or compact state.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Documentation Improvement: conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews to ensure documentation captures severity, risk, and medical necessity for outpatient services.
• Outpatient HCC Coding: assign ICD-10-CM for outpatient encounters and input data into EMR following coding standards.
• Data Integrity and Compliance: maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA and regulations.
• Collaboration and Education: liaise between clinical providers and HIM; educate providers on coding and documentation standards.
