Job summary

The City of Columbia, SC is seeking a Maintenance Worker for the Parks & Recreation Department to handle semi-skilled and unskilled grounds and facility upkeep, including mowing, trimming, pruning, landscaping, and debris removal. You will operate hand tools, lawn care equipment, and light vehicles to keep parks and recreation areas clean and safe.

Under close supervision, you will perform routine tasks, assist with equipment care, and help with events and facility operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• No prior experience required.
• Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, planting, mulching and watering.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws and small tractors.
• Assist in upkeep of athletic fields, playgrounds, trails and public recreation areas.
• Remove litter, debris and hazards from grounds and facilities.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of recreational programs and events.
• Follow safety procedures and departmental standards while performing maintenance.
