Job summary

San Antonio Zoo is seeking a Painter Assistant to support the maintenance painting team across facilities, exhibits, and enclosures in San Antonio, Texas. The role focuses on surface preparation, mixing and applying paints, and keeping work areas clean and organized.

The ideal candidate has basic painting skills, an eye for detail, and must be comfortable working outdoors. This position requires 18+ and a valid Class C Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain one within 45 days).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous painting/maintenance experience is a plus but not required.
• Must be 18+ with a clean driving record.
• Valid Texas Class C license or ability to obtain within 45 days.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for painting: clean, sand, and priming.
• Assist painters in applying paints, stains, sealers, and finishes to various surfaces.
• Set up and maintain painting equipment (brushes, rollers, sprayers, ladders).
• Mask and protect areas to prevent splatter; ensure areas are clean after projects.
• Follow zoo safety guidelines and complete all assigned maintenance tasks.
