Job summary

Camp Burgess & Hayward is seeking an Outdoor Education Director to manage the rental program for school groups across Fall/Winter/Spring, with day and overnight trips. The role includes hiring and supervising 10–15 seasonal educators, developing new program activities, and coordinating with facilities and food service teams to meet program goals.

On-site housing is provided. The position emphasizes safeguarding relationships with school partners, staff development, and active involvement in YMCA

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience teaching outdoor education and teambuilding programs.
• Experience working with students ages 10–18.
• Lifeguarding or waterfront‑programming experience preferred.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive, effective relationships with staff and community partners.
• Ability to lead groups of students and staff, facilitate discussions, and guide staff development.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Directs and oversees the rental program to meet community needs and YMCA objectives.
• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, and manages 10–15 seasonal Outdoor Educators (Apr–early Jun and late Aug–early Nov).
• Collaborates with the Retreat Center Director and Challenge Course Manager to coordinate operations and achieve program goals.
• Builds relationships with school and group representatives and recruits new rental groups; creates rental-season calendar; provides exemplary customer service and resolves issues.
• Manages rental-program budget; prepares invoices and collects balances; develops budget projections for future seasons.
• Maintains facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and readiness for rental groups; plans transitions between seasons and programs.
• Supports branch objectives and YMCA fundraising; develops relationships with community organizations.
