JOB DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS:
Outdoor Adventures Youth Worker

The Department of Campus Recreation seeks to fill the position of Outdoor Adventures Youth Worker. This entry-level role involves facilitating high-quality outdoor and adventure experiences for youth.

Key responsibilities include delivering excellent customer service, fostering a positive risk management culture, and assisting with daily youth program operations. Activities may take place in various environments, including indoor and outdoor group-based teambuilding, Stone Valley Recreation Area (boat rentals, outdoor climbing structures, facility rentals, general recreation), and other outdoor adventure activities. This position may also involve driving university vehicles and trailers.

Prior outdoor leadership experience is welcomed but not required. Candidates should have a desire to learn new skills, develop youth facilitation and leadership abilities, and engage with youth in dynamic, challenging settings. All Youth Workers will receive training in facilitation, customer service, risk management, and youth-specific considerations. Additional training for site-specific roles and advancement opportunities are available (see Outdoor Adventures Lead Facilitator and Supervisor positions).

Youth Workers are expected to work 2-3 programs per semester, with potential for more during summer. Programs and facility coverage may include overnight shifts. Work hours are variable and scheduled 2-4 weeks in advance. Attendance at mandatory staff development workshops and trainings is required.

This role requires three publicly available clearances:

  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • FBI Criminal Background Check

The position also requires operating a motor vehicle as part of job duties. A valid US driver's license and successful motor vehicle records check are mandatory.

Campus Recreation is part of Student Affairs, offering fitness, wellness, and recreational programs across various facilities, including the Intramural Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, and more.
