Job summary

Biltmore Workforce Management seeks Outdoor Adventure Center Guides for the Asheville estate. You will lead and support safe, educational outdoor activities including bike rentals, river trips, hiking, archery, and nature programs while presenting estate history and program details.

Responsibilities include guest assistance, equipment handling, and basic maintenance. A valid driver’s license and First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain) are required; weekends and holidays are expected.

Qualifications

• One year or more of experience in outdoor program activities or related education.
• Experience leading interpretive activities.
• Experience in guiding and/or teaching outdoor activities preferred.
• Excellent guest service and communication skills; public speaking preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Current certification in First Aid and CPR (onsite required) or ability to obtain within one month of hire.
• Ability to work well with co-workers and management.
• Ability to represent the program and company professionally.
• General knowledge of horticulture and regional wildlife preferred.
• Familiarity with Orvis 101 instructional programs preferred.
• Familiarity with safety regulations for fishing and wildlife management.

Responsibilities

• Assist guests with information, rental equipment, and trail map orientation.
• Load equipment on/off vans and trailers (rafts, oars, boats, kayaks, paddles, bikes).
• Drive a 15-passenger van and trailer with guests and equipment.
• Clean and maintain bikes, rafts, kayaks, and equipment.
• Maneuver kayaks and rafts with paddles and oar frames.
• Launch and row a drift boat or raft.
• Return equipment and vehicles after use and prep for next outing.
• Perform basic trail and habitat maintenance (mowing, weed-eating, digging).
• Present naturalist, well-being, and history programs to guests.
• Assist with administering special programs to large groups (fishing schools).
• Help guests with estate information and activities at Biltmore.
• Book tours, process payments, and interpret online reports.
• Provide general support to department, leadership, and company.
