Job summary

YMCA is seeking an OST Educator to plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children, focusing on health, safety, and adherence to child protection policies.

You will supervise activities, maintain records, build positive relationships with youth and families, and participate in staff trainings and family events in a caring, professional YMCA environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required; or within 60 days of hire.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
  • Previous experience working with children (at least 6 months) required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a group of children and program activities.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and standards as established by law or the Y; safety or emergency procedures; and required records.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming aligned with the Y's values.
  • Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building.
  • Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for reflection.
  • Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
  • Projects a professional image, including neat appearance, positive manner and dependable attendance; acts as a role model.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Youth & Family Services, the OST Educator plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum geared to the needs of each child in his/her care/classroom/program, including the health & safety of the children and adherence to all YMCA Child Protection policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supervises a group of children and program activities.
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); all MA Department of EJ:&C regulations; maintains the program site, equipment; and required program records.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y's values.
  • Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
  • Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
  • Project a professional image, including neat appearance, positive manner and dependable attendance and be a role model for children, families and other staff.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children (at least 6 months) required.
  • Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required; or within 60 days of hire.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
Job Type:

Part-Time

Schedule:

15-25 hours per week. Please let us know your availability!

Pay:

$16.00/hr Plus, access to YMCA facilities for all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave
