Job summary

Shift5 is building the data platform for onboard OT, delivering cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, and compliance capabilities for defense and commercial fleets. We are seeking a Detection Engineer to join our Research team to bridge data science research and engineering delivery.

In this role you will design PoC detection capabilities across cybersecurity threats, maintenance issues, and telemetry anomalies; collaborate with Product Engineers to operationalize algorithms; and work with IPTs

Qualifications

• BS/MS in CS, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Rust (or C/C++ with a willingness to learn Rust).
• Experience with Git, GitHub Actions, Docker, Linux CLI.
• Knowledge of data analysis, basic ML concepts, cybersecurity anomaly detection.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and build PoC capabilities to validate anomaly detection for cybersecurity, maintenance, and telemetry.
• Operationalize insights with Data Scientists and hand off to Product Engineers for core platform integration.
• Collaborate across field engineering, product, and data science to deliver integrated detection capabilities.
• Analyze large serial bus data to distinguish benign from malicious activity and failures.
• Read specifications to build protocol parsers and stay ahead of OT failure modes.
• Work with QA to build testbeds, simulations, and validation suites for detection modules.
