Job summary

OSU-Cascades Library is seeking part-time Library Student Assistants for the 2026-2027 academic year. You will deliver customer service at the information desk, check out materials, and assist with resource sharing and technology support, while maintaining library spaces.

Hours up to 24 per week; starting 2026-09-11. OSU-Cascades emphasizes professional skills development through NACE-aligned competencies and a supportive campus community.

Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible.
  • Undergraduate/graduate credit hour requirements per term as specified.
  • International student credit-hour requirements per term as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver friendly and courteous customer service at the information desk.
  • Use library software to check out and return materials.
  • Process requests for materials arriving and departing via workflows.
  • Provide basic technology assistance for using library resources.
  • Perform regular library upkeep through cleaning and organizing.

Job Description

This recruitment will be used to fill up to 3 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) library student assistants for the 2026-2027 academic year at Oregon State University - Cascades (OSU-Cascades). Using excellent customer service, Library Student Assistants connect Cascades students and faculty to library resources and services. Working at the library supports all career-readiness competencies as defined by NACE, the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Position Duties
  • Deliver friendly and courteous customer service for all visitors at the library’s information desk.
  • Use library software and hardware to check out and return library materials.
  • Process requests for materials arriving and departing from the library through resource sharing workflows.
  • Provide basic technology assistance with accessing and using library resources.
  • Perform regular library upkeep through cleaning and organizing.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by Library Director.

  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
  • *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS) and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
  • Required Ability and enthusiasm to provide excellent customer service.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and utilize library tools such as the online catalog, the library website, and Library of Congress classification system.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
  • Punctual and dependable.
  • Preferred Proficiency with basic office software and OSU applications.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Previous library work or volunteer experience.
  • Curiosity about the field of librarianship and its associated practices.
Working Conditions/Schedule

This is a clerical position involving customer service at an information desk; schedules vary and are set based on student employee class schedules. Library open hours are 8am-8pm with holidays and term breaks as defined by the annual OSU calendar.
